On Sep. 1, Citi and SMRT celebrated 20 years of partnership at Ang Mo Kio MRT station, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhancing the daily commuting experience of Singaporeans.

The celebration saw an announcement of several promotions and a new perk for Citi SMRT Cardmembers, including a limited time offer of an upsized cashback of S$400 for new sign-ups to the Citi SMRT Card.

Speaking at the celebration, Yeo Wenxian, the CEO of Citibank Singapore, said:

"This partnership is driven by Citi's strong commitment to Singapore, to bring value to commuters and cardholders here in their daily life. The Citi SMRT Card serves as an accessible and beneficial entry point for customers to embark on their Citi financial journey and grow their relationship with us for the long term."

Ngien Hoon Ping, the Group CEO of SMRT Corporation added:

"Our partnership with Citi began 20 years ago with a shared vision — to transform how people experience their daily commute. We wanted travel on our public transport system to be more than just moving from point A to point B, but part of a vibrant lifestyle.

Together, SMRT and Citi introduced a unique credit card that enables seamless rides, via the MRT and buses, from home to anywhere - whether for work or social activities - while also enabling fuss-free online shopping, right from the comfort of home. Over the years, while the way Singaporeans commute and shop has transformed, SMRT's mission of 'Moving People, Enhancing Lifestyle' remains ever relevant."

Why the Citi SMRT Card might be just what you need for your daily essentials and commute

For those of you not in the know, the Citi SMRT Credit Card was first introduced in 2006, and incorporated an EZ-link card functionality for the convenience of cardholders, as well as Singapore’s first commute rewards programme.

Since then, the card’s rebates have expanded to include other areas such as food delivery and online shopping, reflecting the changes in lifestyle of Singaporeans.

In May 2021, a savings rate of five per cent was introduced on transactions for groceries, online purchases and public transport, including ride-hailing services such as Grab and Gojek.

If you are a new sign-up to Citi Credit Card, all you need to do to unlock the upsized cashback offer of S$400 is to spend a minimum of S$800 in two months.

What’s more, as part of the new perk, existing and new Citi SMRT Cardmembers can look forward to enjoying a five per cent savings rate for transactions made in Malaysian Ringgit, including those made online from Sep. 1, 2025 to Feb. 28, 2026.

Perfect for those of you who love to do your shopping in Johor Bahru, and other parts of Malaysia.

Other limited time offers include 20-cent treats at popular local F&B brands on a weekly basis for a month, starting from Sep. 19, 2025.

More updates on these 20-cent treats will be provided here.

Users will be given a minute to earn points by selecting as many icons as they can.

Each icon in the game will represent a different value proposition of the Citi SMRT Card such as groceries or transport among others, and is worth five points.

What’s more, you can play the game multiple times, with no limit to the number of rewards you can win.

Pretty neat overall.
