SBS Transit has apologised after one of its cross-border buses hit a height barrier in a motorcycle lane near the Johor Bahru Customs building and held up traffic.

No injuries were reported from those on board.

The bus operator is currently assisting the Malaysia police in their investigations.

Hit barrier, held up traffic

A 12-second clip of the incident shared to Facebook showed that a service 170 bus was stuck underneath the barrier near the JB customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) complex.

It nearly occupied the entire one-lane road, with a queue of about 20 motorcyclists forming behind it.

The top of the bus appeared to have been damaged from the collision.

Its information panel was flickering, and its hazard lights were on.

A sign seen in the clip indicated that the traffic was heading in the direction of Woodlands.

Bus service 170 plies a route between Larkin in JB and Queen Street in Singapore, according to SBS Transit's website.

SBS Transit statement

In response to Mothership's queries, SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said its bus captain accidentally entered the motorcycle lane at the Johor Bahru Customs, and unfortunately came into contact with the height barrier.

"Thankfully, no one on board including the bus captain was hurt. We apologise to affected commuters and motorcyclists for the inconvenience caused," Wu said.

Wu added that SBS Transit is assisting the Malaysia police in their investigations.
