Police investigating man, 48, whose 2 children allegedly assisted in distributing flyers at Punggol
A police report was lodged on Apr. 28.
On Apr. 28, a Reddit user alleged that children were apparently distributing election flyers at a public housing block in Punggol.
To support their claims, the user also uploaded a footage clip, which showed a girl, dressed in a white top, putting two flyers at the gate of two units at around 1:45pm on Apr. 27.
According to the video, the flyer appeared to be introducing the People's Action Party (PAP) candidates.
In the caption, the Reddit user said that they live in Punggol GRC.
They added that they "happened to view the footage" because their bicycle, which was parked outside their unit, "was damaged due to the kid in the video playing around while distributing flyers".
Man said he did not want to leave kids alone at home
In response to media queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Elections Department of Singapore (ELD) confirmed that a police report was lodged on Apr. 28.
Preliminary investigations found that a 48-year-old male had distributed election-related flyers, accompanied by his two children who are below 16 years old.
The man told SPF and ELD that he had brought them along because he did not wish to leave them alone at home and was not aware that this constituted an offence.
The two children allegedly assisted him in distributing the flyers, added the police.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Under section 83(1)(a) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, persons below 16 years of age are prohibited from taking part in election activities.
ELD had advised the relevant political party on Apr. 29 to remind its members of the law in relation to campaigning activities.
