Japanese bookstore chain Books Kinokuniya will open another outlet in Raffles City.
In an Instagram post, Kinokuniya Singapore announced that its NBC Stationery and Gifts store in Raffles City, which was slated to close, will be rebranded as Books Kinokuniya in August 2025.
The new store will be located on the third floor of the mall, where Challenger used to be.
"We look forward to welcoming you there," the management said.
Kinokuniya Singapore previously announced that the NBC store in Raffles City will close on May. 4, 2025.
Its main store at Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Ngee Ann City will also be downsizing. The vacated area will house a new cafe, amongst others.
According to Kinokuniya's website, its main store in Singapore currently occupies 38,000 sq ft on the fourth floor of Takashimaya and carries over 500,000 titles from around the world.
In addition to books and magazines, the bookstore also sells stationery, collectible toys, figurines, and games, amongst others.
However, a spokesperson from Toshin Development Singapore, who manages the speciality stores area of Takashimaya, did not reveal how much the bookstore will be downsized.
The spokesman reassured customers that the bookstore remains "a key anchor tenant".
According to him, Kinokuniya's decision is part of its "continued commitment to providing an enriching retail experience".
"The store is undergoing a space reconfiguration to refine its book collection while incorporating a lifestyle element," read the statement.
The "transformation", which includes the addition of a new cafe, will offer customers "a refreshed and immersive environment that complements the bookstore's offerings," said the spokesman.
Mothership has reached out to Books Kinokuniya for comments.
