A ceiling collapsed at the second floor of KSL shopping mall in Johor Bahru on Mar. 8.

According to Malaysian media, the incident appeared to have occurred in the evening, between 6pm and 7pm.

Scenes of the collapsed ceiling were uploaded to social media, showing extensive damage with iron girders protruding downwards.

In addition, the ceiling appeared to have fallen over the kiosks of multiple stores.

No injuries reported so far

Thus far, no injuries among members of the public or the staff of stores have been reported.

One netizen claimed that he had been in a massage parlour nearby when he heard a loud noise and went out to check, only to discover to his shock that the ceiling had collapsed, according to China Press.

China Press cited speculation from witnesses that the heavy rain earlier in the day may have been a factor, but said this was not confirmed.

Another video uploaded to social media showed that the area affected by the collapsed ceiling was eventually cordoned off, presumably by the mall's security.

China Press reported that queries to the shopping mall about the incident were still unanswered at the time of publication.
