A new Olympic-sized ice rink is being planned for construction in Pandan Gardens, according to recently published documents by two national sport organisations.
While no exact location has been pinpointed, the site of the former Pandan Gardens Swimming Complex has been identified as a potential site, according to The Straits Times.
The facility will feature two rinks — one Olympic-sized and one smaller — and is scheduled for completion by end-2026.
Ever since the closure of JCube in 2023, Singapore has been left without a single Olympic-sized rink, leaving athletes without a space to train at.
The remaining ice rink, located at Kallang Leisure Park, is smaller than the international standard.
Rink in the works
Documents published by the Singapore Ice Hockey Association (SIHA) and the Singapore Ice Skating Association (SISA) state that a rink will be built in the area, said ST.
According to minutes of SIHA's general meeting on Aug. 31, 2024, a rink in Pandan Gardens has been confirmed with a 10-year lease, with the option for a 10-year extension.
It specified that the facility will feature an Olympic-sized rink and a second, smaller rink measuring one-third of the Olympic size.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March and be completed by end-2026.
Earlier in Mar. 11, 2024, SISA said in a note to members that a tenure of beyond 10 years had been secured for the development of a rink at Pandan Gardens.
In response to ST's queries, a SIHA spokesperson said details have yet to be finalised and the association is working with Sport Singapore and SISA on plans for the rink.
