The stray dog in Thailand that was seen "mourning" and camping outside a 7-Eleven store for its deceased owner to return has been adopted by royalty.

The pup, known as Moo Daeng and dubbed "Hachi of Korat", was adopted by Thai Princess Siribha Chudabhorn.

According to the princess's Facebook page on Jan. 23, she saw a video of the dog Moo Daeng and wanted to help with its medical expenses.

Depression

In the post, the princess shared that Moo Daeng was being cared for by a local, who was unwell and unable to bring the dog home.

As such, the princess decided to take in Moo Daeng and provide it with a home.

She added that Moo Daeng was found to be suffering from severe depression.

The princess said that while she did not want to take Moo Daeng from anyone, she wanted to help and support the pup with its mental health issues:

"I swear on my life that I will love and care for him like my own child, just like all my other pets."

Waiting

Moo Daeng first made the news when it was seen waiting for its owner, who passed in November 2024, outside a 7-Eleven outlet in the Mueang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The homeless man reportedly died from a serious illness and the dog was believed to have been waiting for him to return.

Moo Daeng, whose name means "red pork" in Thai, was later aptly given the nickname "Hachi of Korat", inspired by the Japanese dog Hachiko, which had waited every day at the Shibuya Station in Tokyo for its owner to come back.

The scene of Moo Daeng waiting alone was shared on Jan. 13 by Facebook user Mari-Mo Photography, garnering many reactions.

In the post, Moo Daeng was seen lying on top of a blue towel outside the store with a red blanket covering it.

Next to it, a yellow sign, reportedly put up by the store owner, informed the public that Moo Daeng cannot consume liver and milk.

"Please help it live long," the sign read.

A animal plush toy was also seen accompanying the dog.
