A taxi, driven by a 73-year-old male cabby, overturned along Sheares Avenue apparently after it skidded while travelling in the direction towards East Coast Park on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said they were alerted to the accident at about 4:40pm

Photos of accident

Photos of the aftermath of the accident showed a yellow taxi, a Hyundai Kona, overturned on the left-most lane of the road beside Marina Bay Sands (MBS).

A person, who purportedly witnessed the aftermath of the accident at about 6pm, said the family involved were seen seated by the road and they appeared "traumatised".

The airbags in the car appeared to have been deployed.

Broken glass from the car's windows were seen on the road.

Passengers uninjured

The taxi was carrying four passengers at the time, taxi operator ComfortDelGro to 8world News.

None of them were injured, the Chinese media reported.

The company said it is providing support to those involved and is assisting with investigations.

The cabby was conveyed conscious to Raffles Hospital, the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said.

He is assisting with police investigations.

According to the Road Traffic Act, drivers and all passengers must wear seatbelts in the car, and the driver must ensure that passengers comply with such rules.

If caught, both passenger and driver would be fined.

If a driver fails to wear a seatbelt or does not ensure every passenger wears a seatbelt, he is liable to a fine of S$150 and a deduction of three demerit points, as stated by the Singapore Police Force.
