"Massage parlours" at Jurong East Avenue 1 are allegedly offering "tea" services with the masseuse, and massages on any part of the body.

A Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the area after complaints from members of the public.

At around 10pm, it was observed that many masseuses stood in the walkways on the ground floor of two blocks.

Some masseuses would also approach male passersby to ask them if they wanted a massage.

One masseuse told the reporter that the price for an hour-long massage was S$50 to S$60 and that the more expensive ones came with shower facilities.

She continued to attempt to invite the reporter into the parlour, saying there were young and beautiful masseuses from other countries to choose from, and that the reporter could even invite the masseuses out for "tea" if they wanted.

Another masseuse told the reporter they could give a "massage anywhere" for S$50 per hour, and gave their assurance that "there will definitely be additional services".

When asked if they could go out for "tea", the masseuse said it was fine but reminded the reporter that there would be a charge.

For some of the massage parlours where closing time was 10:30pm, several masseuses said they were willing to provide services after business hours.

Some masseuses also said service hours are flexible and can be arranged for the customer's convenience.

Such parlours began appearing in the neighbourhood more than a year ago.

In late 2023, a Shin Min reader claimed that over 10 such establishments have opened in the neighbourhood of Jurong East Avenue 1, some of which were suspected of providing "special services".

Some residents voiced their displeasure about the proliferation of such businesses, saying it has affected the area's reputation and other businesses.

Individuals along Jurong East Avenue 1 recently arrested for allegedly providing sexual services

Nine individuals were arrested across locations along Jurong East Avenue 1 and Jurong East Street 31 between Nov. 12 and Dec. 3, 2024.

They were among 35 individuals, aged 25 to 58, who were arrested by the Singapore police for allegedly providing sexual services in TCM outlets & massage parlours.

Among the six locations, one massage parlour was found to be operating without a valid license —  it had been displaying an invalid Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practising and registration certificate from a previous tenant.

Eight women, aged 34 to 49, were arrested for allegedly providing sexual services at these establishments.

Under the Women's Charter 1961, anyone suspected of providing erotic services in a massage parlour faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine of up to S$100,000 if convicted.

In the case of a landlord or agent knowingly renting out real estate to others for prostitution, they can be fined up to S$100,000 under the Women's Charter, jailed for up to five years, or be subjected to both.

Repeat offenders can be fined up to S$150,000, jailed for up to seven years, or both.
