Foreign woman, 62, arrested for allegedly stealing S$1,121 of perfumes & souvenirs at Changi Airport transit area

A 62-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in a case of shop theft in the transit area of Changi Airport, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a news release on Jan. 22, 2025.
The woman, who is an Indian national, had allegedly stolen perfumes and souvenir accessories amounting to S$1,121.60 across four retail outlets in the transit area of the airport.
A staff member from one of the stores had observed a woman behaving suspiciously after repeatedly entering and exiting the store without purchasing any items.
According to SPF, the woman had tried to conceal the stolen goods in her hand carry bag before exiting the store without paying.
The police were called after the missing items were confirmed by staff.
Officers from the Airport Police Division managed to establish the identity of the woman before she could board her flight out of Singapore.
Penalties
The woman will be charged in court on Jan. 23, 2025 for the offence of theft in the dwelling.
The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
