It's angbao season.

For prospective angbao-givers, here's a quick guide on how to get your hands on new and fit-for-gifting banknotes.

72 pop-up DBS/POSB ATMs

You'll be able to withdraw fit and new notes at 72 pop-up DBS/POSB ATMs across 48 locations in Singapore.

The pop-up ATMs will be operational between Jan. 14 and Jan. 28, from 10am to 10pm on most days.

The exception is on Jan. 28, the eve of Chinese New Year, during which the ATMs will be available from 10am to 1pm.

To avoid the worst of the queues, you can check the pop-up ATM heat map here.

You'll be able to search for an ATM near you, and get details on the kind of notes it'll dispense (new or fit-for-gifting).

15 of the ATMs dispense fit notes.

The map also comes with hourly updates on estimated queue wait times, and nearby seating options at selected ATMs.

Customers are limited to a maximum of three withdrawals per person.

Each withdrawal comes in the following packages:

  • S$100 (S$2 in 50 pieces)
  • S$300 (S$10 in 30 pieces)
  • S$500 (S$50 in 10 pieces)
  • S$600 (S$10 in 20 pieces and S$50 in 8 pieces)

Pre-book online

DBS customers can also pre-book their banknotes online between Jan. 7 and Jan. 19.

Unlike withdrawing from a regular ATM, pre-booking allows you to reserve fit and new notes in your preferred denominations, at your preferred quantities.

You can them collect them at your preferred branch or centre.

There will be two booking windows, with corresponding collection windows.

The first booking window will open between Jan. 7 and Jan. 12. Collection for this window will take place from Jan. 14 to Jan. 20.

The second booking window will open from Jan. 13 to Jan. 19. The collection period will be from Jan. 21 to Jan. 27.

Collection periods exclude Saturdays and Sundays.

Do note that reservations are limited to S$800 for new notes, and S$1,400 for fit notes, per customer.

Customers are also limited to one reservation slot each.

Dedicated collection timeslots for seniors

Good news if you're a senior.

There will be dedicated collection slots during DBS branch operating hours for you to collect your reserved notes.

Walk-in requests (i.e., without pre-booking online) at bank branches will also be restricted only to seniors aged 60 and above, and those with disabilities.

If you're neither, please don't just turn up at a random bank branch hoping for shiny new notes.

You probably won't get them, and that's not very huat.

Going green with e-angbaos

Rather skip the queue?

You can order complimentary DBS/POSB QR angbaos — physical angbaos, with a QR code that the recipient can scan to get the money — by Jan. 8, to receive them by Jan. 25.

Delivery is also free.

Alternatively, cut out paper entirely with digital angbaos.

You can load via the DBS PayLah! app, and the amount will be credited to the recipient's PayLah! account.
