S'porean man drives son, 1 & wife to JB, thief smashes car window to steal son's thermos & wife's AirPods
They left a bag containing the items in the back seat while shopping at the baby products centre, where they saw security walking around.
A Singaporean family's day trip to Johor Bahru was cut short when they discovered that their car had been broken into after they had finished their shopping.
Speaking to Mothership, Azhar said the incident happened on Dec. 18.
He had driven into Johor with his wife and one-year-old son using his colleague's car in the morning.
Passenger window smashed, bag containing thermos and AirPods taken from back seat
At about 10am, he parked the car at Little Genius Baby Products Centre located at Tebrau 3.
The family then went into Little Genius to shop for about two hours before emerging at 12 noon.
Azhar said they then found that the right passenger window behind the driver’s seat had been smashed.
A black Hellolulu backpack containing a hot water thermos for his son and his wife’s AirPods were also taken from the back seat.
Azhar said:
"The reason why we left it on the back seat was because we thought it was broad daylight and the compound was supposed to have security walking around."
Azhar said he had speculated with his colleague that the alleged perpetrator might have targeted the car because it was an old Hyundai Sonata.
The car also does not have an alarm.
Spent the second half of the day filing the police report
Azhar said the family had to cut short their trip due to the incident and ended up spending the second half of the day filing a police report.
They had originally planned to take their son to the indoor playground at Aeon Mall in Tebrau City.
Wanted to pay for the repairs
Azhar added that he wanted to pay his colleague for the car repairs as he felt bad.
However, his colleague told him he would claim the damages from his insurance company.
Azhar said:
"I would like to caution Singaporeans that anything can happen and to be vigilant and not put any bags on their seat no matter how small the items. The trouble we go through reporting and repairing the window is not worth it."
