Japan Airlines has been hit by a cyberattack, Nikkei Asia reported on Dec. 26, 2024.

The airlines tweeted that there was a "network failure" in progress and it may "potentially affect the operations of both domestic and international flights."

According to Japan Times, citing Japan Airlines, both domestic and international flights have indeed been delayed.

Ticket sales for flights departing on Thursday (Dec. 26), both international and domestic, have been suspended.

The cyberattack hit systems for boarding procedures and baggage check-in, Nikkei Asia reported.

Although those were resolved, it also affected systems for reporting flight plans to the authorities, and for calculating the weight of cargo.

ANA, Japan's other major international carrier, was not affected.

Japan Airlines have also reportedly identified the router (used to exchange data between networks) that was causing the problem and temporarily shut it down, and is currently "checking the status of system recovery."
