2 mynas know how to use automatic doors at Kent Ridge mall to get out
One activated the sensor, while the other waited, and both went out.
Birds are smart.
A pair of mynas were seen inside One@KentRidge mall — but they were not trapped at all.
Both birds were first seen standing in front of the glass doors that were closed.
As one bird continued waiting in front of the door, the other bird flew up to activate the motion sensor and got the automatic sliding doors to open.
Both birds then exited intuitively, with one flying and one hopping.
If the scene was not captured on camera, no one would have believed it.
The scene was caught on video and put up on Xiaohongshu.
Responses
Commenters were full of praise for the birds.
They commented that the birds' actions could not have been down to dumb luck and queried if they can communicate with each other to the extent they can strategise and cooperate.
Those who commented also wrote that mynas may have evolved in Singapore's urban environment and wondered if they actually figured out how the doors worked by observing people's behaviour.
Alternatively, the birds may have noticed a correlation between obstructing and activating the motion sensor at the top and getting the doors to open.
