A 24-year-old Malaysian motorcyclist passed away on Oct. 2, four days before his 25th birthday on Oct. 6

This was after he was involved in an accident between his bike and a lorry.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the motorcyclist's cousin said the deceased, surnamed Wang (transliteration), was on his way to work in Singapore when tragedy struck.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) told Mothership that the accident took place at the junction of Admiralty Road and Woodlands Centre Road at around 8am on Oct. 2.

The location is close to the Causeway.

Wang was conveyed unconscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he subsequently passed away, added the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Police investigations are ongoing.

Aftermath of accident

The aftermath of the accident was caught on camera by onlookers, and the photos were subsequently uploaded to Facebook.

In the photos, a personnel could be seen attending to Wang, who was lying face up in the middle of the road.

Wang's motorcycle, which was lying on its side, appeared damaged, with debris strewn across the road.

A blue lorry was parked next to Wang's motorcycle.

A filial son who took care of his family

Wang's 46-year-old mother, surnamed Lin (transliteration), told Shin Min that their family hails from the state of Perak.

Wang was the eldest son in the family, and he leaves behind a younger sister and brother.

"He was very filial. We had just spoken the day before the accident," shared Lin.

Wang's cousin added that he would send the majority of his salary to his family to cover his parents' and grandmother's living expenses, reported 8world News.

Wang also had planned on earning more money as his younger brother, 19, was recently admitted to a university in Malaysia, said his cousin.

Worked in Singapore for years

According to Lin, Wang began to travel to Singapore daily for work while staying in Malaysia approximately four years ago, reported Shin Min.

His last job was at a warehouse, and he would usually leave his home at around 7am for work, 8world reported Wang's cousin as saying.

She shared that when Wang's father first learned about the accident from Wang's company on Oct. 2, he was worried that it was a scam call.

It was only when Wang's mother, who also works in Singapore, visited the hospital that the family received the heartbreaking news that they had lost Wang.

Family brought Wang's body back to Malaysia

Although Wang's father and younger sister rushed to Singapore on Oct. 2 afternoon, they did not get a chance to see Wang for one last time "as he was sent for an autopsy", his cousin told 8world.

They only knew that Wang passed away "due to blood loss" when they were retrieving his body the next day, she added.

Wang's mother told Shin Min the family has since brought his body back to Malaysia and will be burying him in their hometown.

Family looking for dash camera footage of accident

According to Lin, the police told the family that Wang was "believed to have been run over by a lorry after his motorcycle self-skidded", reported Shin Min.

She said she hoped that those with dashcam footage can assist "the family to know the full picture".

"We still do not know what exactly happened during the accident. As family members, we want to know the truth so that we can come to terms with his passing," 8world reported Wang's cousin as saying.

She also said she hoped online users would stop leaving negative comments about Wang, such as accusing him of not following traffic rules when they do not know what had happened.

"Our family is devastated right now. Please respect the deceased and his family," added Wang's cousin.
