Maxwell Food Centre murder suspect, 41, taken back to crime scene where woman stabbed to death
He faces the death penalty if convicted.
A man accused of stabbing a fellow hawker to death at Maxwell Food Centre along Kadayanallur Street was taken back to the crime scene by police at 9am on Oct. 15.
Shackled and masked
Chinese national Wu Tao, 41, shackled at his wrists and ankles, was accompanied by six police officers when he was brought back to the Dao Xiang Ju food stall where the alleged crime occurred.
Wu, who is also a Singapore permanent resident, allegedly killed Thai national, Tan Kamonwan, 48, on Sep. 6 between 10.25pm and 10.55pm inside the Chinese and Thai food stall.
He was charged with murder on Sep. 8.
Wu was arrested at Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre shortly after 1:30am on Sep. 7.
This was after he told officers there that he had stabbed a woman.
What happened during crime scene visit
A cordon was set up across five stalls in the food centre as part of the visit, CNA reported.
Wu was dressed in a red shirt, black shorts and slippers, and he wore a face mask throughout the visit.
Wu spent 10 minutes inside the stall with the officers, The Straits Times reported.
A crowd gathered to watch the proceedings, it was also reported, as officers placed placards with arrow signs within the premises and photos were taken at the crime scene.
Officers ended the visit at 9:45am and closed the shop’s shutters.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both Wu and the victim knew each other.
He faces the death penalty if convicted of murder.
