A 42-year-old woman in the United States allegedly shot and killed her two sons before attempting to take her own life, according to police.
Colleen Lemmon faces two counts of capital murder in Texas over the deaths of Christopher Pitre, 21, and Brian Pitre, 15, the New York Post reported.
Older son found dead, younger son died in hospital
Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a mobile home on Big Sky Drive in Waxahachie at around 4am on Oct. 1.
Christopher was found dead inside the home.
His younger brother, Brian, was taken to hospital in critical condition, but later died from his injuries, according to NBC 5.
Their father, Scott Pitre, told NBC 5 that Brian had just celebrated his 15th birthday.
He said he wanted justice.
The motive for the shootings was not reported.
Allegedly admitted shooting both sons
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 4, deputies found Lemmon with self-inflicted injuries and a handgun nearby.
She allegedly told responding officers: “I shot both my kids.”
Lemmon was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie.
The motive for the alleged killings remained unclear.
A neighbour, Ida Brown, told FOX 4 that the deaths had affected her even though she did not know the family.
“It’s heartbreaking, and I’m praying for them,” she said.
