Man, 53, arrested for housebreaking & stealing S$100 from East Coast Road shop

A 53-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On Sep. 19, at about 1:40pm, the police were alerted to a case of alleged housebreaking and theft at a shop along East Coast Road.

Cash amounting to about S$100 was reportedly stolen.

The man was identified and arrested within four hours of a police report through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras and surveillance footage.

The man was slated to be charged on Sep. 21 with housebreaking and theft.

The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The police advised members of the public to secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving premises unattended.

Large sums of cash and valuables should not be kept on the premises.

The police also advised members of the public to install a burglar alarm, motion-sensor lights, and surveillance cameras to cover access points to your premises, and to test them periodically to ensure they are in good working condition.
