Ex-Acting Minister Faishal Ibrahim in talks to return to academia: NUS

Former Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim is reportedly in discussions with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to return to academia.

In a statement provided to Mothership on Aug. 24, the university confirmed talks are underway regarding the return.

Before joining politics, Faishal was previously an associate professor in NUS's real estate department.

He made his political debut in the 2006 General Elections and took on various portfolios, most recently serving as a Member of Parliament for Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC after winning his contest in the 2025 election.

Faishal, who was also a Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, resigned from politics and as an MP on Jul. 20, after the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) received an email from a female member of the public concerning her interactions with Faishal.

While no criminal offence had been committed by either party, it was questioned whether Faishal's conduct had fallen short of the standards expected of a Political Office Holder and MP.

Faishal was succeeded by Zaqy Mohamad.
