Stephen Chow is back.

Kind of.

The 64-year-old Hong Kong filmmaker has written and directed a new film, "Kung Fu Soccer", which will hit Singapore cinemas on Aug. 6, 2026, Encore Films announced on Jul. 6.

“The Legendary King of Comedy, Stephen Chow, is back after 25 years with Kung Fu Soccer,” the film distributor said on social media.

A 21-second trailer on social media was accompanied by the caption: “Dream big. Kick harder. Believe in the impossible.”

Women's football team

"Kung Fu Soccer" is touted as the spiritual successor to Chow’s 2001 smash hit comedy, "Shaolin Soccer".

The new movie is about a women’s football team making a miraculous comeback to win a championship.

It is Chow's first theatrical release in seven years since "The New King Of Comedy" (2019), a remake of his classic film, "King Of Comedy" (1999).

The film stars Chinese actress Zhang Xiaofei, rapper-singer-actor Lay Zhang, and actress Dilraba Dilmurat.

There will also be special appearances by Hong Kong actress Carina Lau and Japanese actor Takeru Satoh.

Hong Kong actress Sisley Choi, Hong Kong actor Louis Cheung, American comedian Jimmy O. Yang, and American rapper MC Jin are also in the film.

South Korean actor Song Kang Ho, who starred in 2019 hit "Parasite", could make a cameo.
