Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu shared more about her relationship with her parents, including her father who passed away in 2017, during an interview with Taiwanese media.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, Hsu's parents divorced when she was in primary school, and her father subsequently left home.

It wouldn't be till she was 18 that she reconnected with her father.

Hsu said she did not harbour any resentment, but instead did all she could to spend as much time with him.

They resolved the misunderstandings and any lingering negative feelings Hsu might have had.

Her father was suffering from liver disease at the time, and Hsu spared no effort in helping him fight his ailment.

She said she spent about S$400,000 on her father's medical fees and liver transplant costs.

She teared up during the interview, and explained her philosophy behind her actions.

She said: "After the successful liver transplant, my father stayed with us for nine more years. I feel that money can be earned again, but once my father is gone, he's gone forever."

Hsu recalled the day her father died on New Year's Eve, and choked up.

She noted that he passed away when the fireworks were going off, the event is now something that "we will remember him forever".

While she didn't celebrate New Year's Eve for years after her dad's passing, she started again after her son grew up and became more excited to celebrate the occasion.

Photos of her father are still displayed in her house in Taiwan and Singapore, it was reported.

She greets him every day, and says she will prepare two cups of wine to offer her father on Father's Day.

She said: "Because my dad loves to have a drink, I always have a drink with him and talk to him."

Hsu also touched on her love and respect for her mother.

She called her hardworking, and noted that she never complained even when things got tough.

Hsu also recalled how she and her two siblings overheard their mother secretly crying in the bathroom during their childhood.

She said this broke her heart, and she vowed to become a capable person to take care of, protect, and love her mother.
