A police officer was shot in the shoulder by another police officer while both were engaged in “horseplay” in Pasadena, California, United States.

In a statement released by the Pasadena Police Department on Jun.10, the bizarre incident occurred on Sep. 7, 2025, at about 6:18pm.

The location was in the department’s parking structure located at 240 Ramona Street.

In the video accompanying the statement, a police vehicle that provided the dashcam footage, was seen approaching two police officers who were standing and loading equipment before their shift.

The car recording the scene stopped as it approached the police officers.

One of the standing police officers drew his pistol in a “quick draw fashion” and pointed it towards the dashcam car before holstering the firearm.

Approximately 4 seconds later, the driver, who was a fellow police officer, of the dashcam car discharged his firearm and struck the windscreen of the vehicle.

The standing officer was hit in the left shoulder.

Pasadena police chief Gene Harris, who narrated the video as the events unfolded without any accompanying audio, described the incident as an “unsafe and out-of-policy horseplay involving loaded firearms”.

The wounded officer has recovered from his injuries, it was revealed.

Administrative investigations and disciplinary measures were taken.

“This regretful conduct is not consistent with the expectations and service commitments of this department,” Harris added.

The identities of the officers involved were not disclosed.

Additional police investigations are ongoing.
