U.S. president Donald Trump said in a Jun. 13, 2026 Truth Social post that the U.S. and Iran would sign a peace deal to end the war on Jun. 14, 2026.

"The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL," Trump wrote.

Caution on timeline

However, Iran's foreign ministry had publicly cautioned that the timeline would be stretched, The New York Times reported.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei had advised against comments regarding the timing of the signing, Reuters reported.

"We will have to wait and see about the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, although it will not be tomorrow," state media reported him as saying.

He added: "The possibility of this happening in the coming days cannot be ruled out. However, due to the hesitation of the other side, we must be cautious in making any comments about this process."

'Historic peace deal'

Pakistan's prime minister Shehbaz Sharif said via X that "we are closer to a peace deal than ever before".

Noting that finalisation was to be "likely expected in the next 24 hours", he added that "Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after, followed by technical level talks next week".

He said: "We would like to thank United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran for their ongoing commitment during the negotiations, and we extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in the region for their support."

"We are confident that this historic peace deal will form a strong foundation for lasting peace," he added.

According to NYT, Pakistan was a key mediator in the negotiations.

Result of deal

According to BBC, Trump, who had supposedly referred to Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles, said that "at the appropriate time, when all is calm, we will go in and get the Nuclear Dust".

He added that it would be "destroyed" later.

Trump also said in his post that he hoped the process would "work out quickly, easily and smoothly", noting that if it did not, Washington had "the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again!"

Reuters reported that should the deal be confirmed, it would be ‌the most significant diplomatic breakthrough yet in ending the war that killed thousands and caused global energy prices to rise sharply.
