A Carousell seller in Singapore suspected he was falsely accused of selling Kpods in retaliation for complaining about a delivery driver.

The seller, known only as D, sells Thai amulets from his Carousell page.

On May 21, he sold two items to two different customers, each worth over S$200, reported Stomp.

The customers had requested same-day express delivery, so D booked a Lalamove courier’s standard delivery service, expecting the parcels to be delivered within an hour.

But after an hour, one of his customers complained that the item had yet to arrive, prompting D to check on the parcel’s whereabouts.

He found that the driver was in a “totally different location.”

Returning packages

D attempted to contact the driver through the number provided by the Lalamove app, but the number was no longer in use.

When D tried to contact Lalamove’s customer service, they instead tried to get him to fill out a claim form.

According to Stomp, D said he was "extremely pissed off" and threatened to report the driver to the police and file a complaint. Only then did he receive a call from the driver after sending those messages.

At this point, the delivery was two hours late.

Worried that his customers might no longer be at their delivery locations, D warned the driver that he expected the packages to be returned immediately,

He argued with the delivery driver, who eventually agreed to return the packages to him.

Police involvement

D saw the driver arrive at his condominium carpark, but did not show up outside his door.

Two police officers appeared on his doorstep 45 minutes later with his packages, Stomp reported.

The driver had allegedly told the police that D might have been using the packages to transport Kpods, an allegation that stunned D.

D had to open the packages in front the police officers, to show that “no contraband or illegal items were found.”

Wasted time

D told Stomp that the incident had wasted his time, and the experience of his customers.

He was sceptical that the driver truly suspected his packages contained illegal items, as held onto them for over two hours rather than reporting the matter right away.

"This is obviously a deliberate attempt to get back at me because he was unhappy that I made him waste his trip returning the parcels," D alleged.

D also expressed concern that if the driver was not dealt with properly, such drivers could make false accusations should they simply be "unhappy with the sender."

Cooperation and contact

D has filed a police report as well as a complaint with Lalamove but said he had not heard from them as of Jun. 11.

D said the only reply he had received so far was an automated response.

Lalamove told Stomp in a statement on Jun. 9 that they had contacted D, and provided him with updates on actions taken by them and had “taken appropriate action on the driver’s account”.

It also said that as the matter had been referred to the police, the company would “provide the necessary cooperation to the relevant authorities where required.”
