A 53-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced to nine months and 19 days’ jail for stabbing a 57-year-old man in Tampines.
Mohamed Sufian Bin Mohamed Sabri pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt on Jun. 16, Shin Min Daily News reported.
In court documents seen by Mothership, the incident occurred on Dec. 19, 2025, at about 5:55pm at U-Taste coffee shop located at 20 Tampines Central 1, near Tampines MRT station.
Known to each other
Sufian and the man were acquaintances.
Since October 2025, the pair reportedly gathered at the coffee shop with other mutual friends.
On Dec. 18, 2025, the pair and other mutual friends met up at the coffee shop.
They argued for undisclosed reasons and parted ways unamicably.
Stab
The following day, on Dec. 19, 2025, the man was having a meal at the coffee shop with another friend when he made eye contact with Sufian.
Sufian and the man then walked to the pavement outside the coffee shop and an argument ensued.
The altercation eventually escalated into a physical one.
Sufian then drew a knife with a blade measuring 13cm and proceeded to stab the man multiple times in the back and forearm, inflicting two stab wounds.
Sufian then fled the scene and dropped the knife after the man’s friends stepped out of the coffee shop.
Despite his injuries, the man picked the knife up from the ground, tucked it in his shorts and gave chase.
A passer-by who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the police.
“A Malay guy covered in blood holding onto a knife, next to Money Max. I don’t see anybody injured. There’s a blood trail,” the passer-by stated.
Officers who arrived at the scene followed a trail of blood and traced it to the direction of the Money Max at Tampines MRT station, where they found the man covered in blood and immediately called for an ambulance.
When paramedics arrived, they retrieved the knife from the man and handed it over to the police.
He was conveyed to Changi General Hospital for treatment.
Sufian was subsequently arrested approximately six hours later on Dec. 20, 2025 at about 1:35am.
Injuries
The man sustained a 4cm stab wound on his abdomen and an 8cm wound on his arm.
His abdomen was punctured, with minor internal bleeding in the abdominal cavity, a laceration of about 1.6cm on his liver, and a haematoma beside his right kidney.
He was warded for a total of four days and was eventually discharged from further general surgery follow up.
Remission order
Sufian was subject to a remission order from Oct. 4, 2025, to Jan. 13, 2026.
Prisoners might be issued a conditional remission order, granting them an early release for good conduct and behaviour during their sentence.
One of the basic conditions of this order, which he violated, is not to commit any offence during the remission period.
