Tampines MP Baey Yam Keng shared a bit about some hardships a town council contractor had to deal with recently.
In his reel, he quietly observed a man working and clearing small, miscellaneous items on the ground.
Baey said: "Besides dried leaves and vegetation, he had to clear rubbish like cigarette butts, wrappers and bottle caps. These are the typical small and light items that can easily be trapped within the bushes."
Baey also broke down the time it might take for someone to clear the area:
"It took him more than 2 minutes to clear one such landscaped area and there are 8 such areas in the vicinity."
Baey then appealed to the public to properly dispose of any waste in a bin or chute, even if the waste is "tiny":
"Even if it’s tiny, it’s not going to just disappear. It’s probably going to be blown by the wind and get stuck in some corners, crevices or gratings that are difficult to reach and remove. If they collect water, they can also become breeding grounds for mosquitoes."
He ended with a call to not make their life more difficult:
"These landscape features are designed to beautify our environment and we have to maintain them well. Please do not make the workers’ job more challenging."
This is not the first time Baey has shared the challenges of workers' in the estate.
In a previous post, Baey explained that they were required to document their work.
