M'sian man caught at Tuas Checkpoint smuggling nearly 2kg of heroin & 1.7kg of cannabis
The drugs seized could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,300 abusers for a week.
A Malaysian man was arrested at Tuas Checkpoint on Sep. 20 for attempting to smuggle about 1.9kg of heroin, 1.65kg of cannabis, 268g of "ice".
He was caught after Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers directed his car, which was registered in Malaysia, for enhanced checks.
They then found two black bundles concealed within the rear boot panel that they suspected of containing controlled drugs.
Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers were immediately alerted, and their subsequent checks revealed six additional black bundles hidden in various parts of the car.
ICA and CNB estimated that the total amount of drugs seized is worth more than S$272,000, and could potentially feed the addiction of about 1,300 abusers for a week.
Investigations are ongoing.
Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine (also known as "pure heroin"), more than 250g of methamphetamine (also known as "ice"), or more than 500g of cannabis, may face the death penalty.
