Thundery showers on most days in S'pore in 1st half of Jan. 2025 could bring 22°C weather
Good news on first working day of 2025.
Heading out over the next two weeks? Make sure to bring your umbrella.
This is because moderate to heavy thundery showers are expected on most days over parts of Singapore in the first fortnight of January 2025.
On a few days, the showers may extend into the night, said Meteorological Service Singapore in a Jan. 2 media advisory.
The total rainfall for the first half of the month is forecast to be above average over most parts of the island.
Cooler conditions in last few days of fortnight
While daily temperatures are likely to range between 24°C and 33°C on most days in the first half of January 2025, Singapore may experience cooler conditions on the last few days of the fortnight.
This is because the strengthening of high-pressure systems over the northern Asian continent may bring a surge of strong north-easterly winds over the South China Sea, affecting Singapore and the surrounding region.
As a result, the daily minimum temperatures in Singapore could drop to 22°C.
Similar weather in 2nd half of Dec. 2024
The weather forecast for the first half of January 2025 is similar to the weather conditions observed in the second half of December 2024.
In the last two weeks of 2024, thundery showers fell over parts of Singapore on most afternoons, with some extending into the evening on a few days.
As a result, around half of the island recorded above average rainfall in the second fortnight of December 2024, with Tuas registering a rainfall of around 40 per cent above average.
Despite the rain, most days over the last two weeks were hot, with daily maximum temperatures between 32°C and 34°C.
The highest daily maximum temperature of 35.4°C was recorded at Clementi on Dec. 16, 2024.
