PM Wong to attend 11th M'sia-S'pore Leaders Retreat in Putrajaya from Jan. 6-7
PMs Wong and Anwar Ibrahim are expected to witness the exchange of the Joint Agreement on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will visit Putrajaya, Malaysia from Jan. 6 to 7 for the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leader’s Retreat with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
This will be his first Leaders’ Retreat since becoming prime minister in 2024.
Vital plaform
The retreat was originally planned for December 2024 but was ultimately delayed as Wong contracted Covid-19.
The retreat is described by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a “vital platform” for both PMs to “set the overall direction for bilateral cooperation” as well as identify new areas for cooperation.
The visit will begin with Anwar hosting PM Wong to dinner on Jan. 6.
Jan. 7 will see the official welcome ceremony take place, meetings between both delegations, as well as bilateral exchanges of Memorandum of Understandings and agreements.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its official release that PM Wong and Anwar are set to witness the exchange of the Joint Agreement on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
The Malaysian MFA also said that six MoUs and one Letter of Intent on education, women and social welfare, climate change, carbon capture and storage, urban development and combatting transnational crimes.
PM Wong will be accompanied by several ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.
DPM Heng Swee Keat will be acting PM in PM Wong’s absence.
