A second monsoon surge is expected to descend over Singapore between Jan. 17 and 19, said the National Environment Agency (NEA).

This will bring wet and windy conditions, occasional thundery showers, and temperatures of around 22°C.

Later in the second half of the month, short thundery showers are expected with above-average rainfall.

The cooler conditions result from a surge of north-easterly winds over the South China Sea, NEA said.

PUB said on Facebook that high tides of up to 3.2 metres are expected, which could lead to higher risk of flooding in coastal areas.

The agency advised the public to check flood risks and sign up for free flood alerts on the myENV app or PUB's Telegram channel.

Rain, rain

This comes on the back of a previous monsoon surge that hit Singapore between Jan. 10 and Jan. 13.

Rainy and windy conditions led to lower-than-average temperatures islandwide that, at one point, dipped to 21.6°C.

The Meteorological Service Singapore said the surge was one of the "longer and more intense surge events" in recent years.

Daily minimum temperatures ranged from about 22°C to 24°C , while daily maximum temperatures ranged from about 25°C to 29°C .
