A 28-year-old man in Singapore pleaded guilty on Jan. 8 to threatening to distribute his ex-girlfriend's nude images in 2023.

He had done so after she got pregnant and he suspected that he did not father the child after going through her messages, according to CNA.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts under the Computer Misuse Act for accessing her email and social media accounts without her permission.

Both parties cannot be named due to a gag order.

Paid for her abortion, accessed her online accounts

The man and the woman were in a relationship from January to July 2023.

They met while working at the same cafe.

They continued having sexual relations after they broke up, until September 2023.

The man obtained nude photos of her and videos of them engaging in sexual acts with consent from her.

She later got pregnant around October 2023 and he paid for her abortion as he had believed that he had fathered the child, the deputy public prosecutor said.

The man noticed on Nov. 16, 2023 that he was able to access his ex-girlfriend's Google account on his laptop as she had logged in using the device previously, it was reported.

He went on to access her email inbox, dating app and social media accounts without her knowing.

After discovering that she had likely slept with another man, he started believing that he did not impregnate her and tried to pressure her into meeting him to confirm it.

This was so as he saw messages the woman had sent in early September 2023 to a friend, saying that she was going to have sex with a person she had met online.

Threatened her

Apart from accessing her accounts without her permission, he also changed the credentials of her Gmail and Instagram accounts.

He also messaged the woman on the same morning and demanded her to call him and said that he was "not having any mercy" on her.

She asked if he changed her email password but he did not respond.

The man then demanded her to send him her "live" location and threatened to delete her Instagram and Gmail accounts.

He also threatened to post nude photos of her on her Instagram account, and to post her messages from the dating app while tagging her parents.

His ex-girlfriend did not respond, and he later shared a screenshot of her Bumble dating app chat in an Instagram story, along with an invitation to be her next "friend with benefits".

He also included her personal phone number in the caption, and tagged her mother's Instagram account.

After this, the man threatened to publish a new Instagram post every five minutes if the woman did not respond.

He also used her Hotmail account to email her father screenshots of her dating app messages and Google Maps searches related to directions to hotels.

They were contained in a document named, "My sins".

The email was titled, "I'm not a good daughter".

Arrested and charged

The woman made a police report after informing her father about the email.

He deleted it before reading its contents.

She later agreed to meet her ex-boyfriend at a shopping mall at 9pm that day.

He then told her what he had changed her Instagram and Gmail passwords to.

He spoke to her when they met and he was arrested shortly after when the police moved in on him.

For his offences, the prosecution is seeking around six months to eight-and-a-half months' jail, and a S$4,000 to S$5,000 fine.

Five other charges will also be taken into consideration.

The man will be sentenced on Feb. 13.
