A Honda Vezel landed in a canal outside the Clementi Police Division Headquarters after colliding with an SBS Transit double-decker bus along Commonwealth Avenue West towards Boon Lay Way on Jan. 2 night.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that they were alerted to the incident at around 9pm on Thursday.

No injuries were reported. Police investigations are ongoing.

Aftermath of incident

When Shin Min Daily News reporters arrived at the scene of the incident, the bus was parked along the road, while the car was still stuck in the canal.

The railing of the canal had been damaged, presumably due to the strong impact of the collision.

A number of traffic police and police officers were at the scene.

On the side of the road stood two men and a woman, who were seen talking to the police officers from time to time.

According to Shin Min, the younger man was likely the driver, and he appeared to be new to the road as a probation plate was displayed on the car's windshield.

Driver not injured

Shin Min also reported the young man was likely driving alone before colliding with the bus and losing control of his car.

Thereafter, the car rammed into a road shoulder and flipped before landing in the canal.

According to Shin Min, the young man was believed to have climbed out of the car by himself.

The other man and woman, believed to be his family members or friends, arrived at the scene upon learning about the incident.

Vehicle severely damaged

At around midnight on Jan. 3, two towing vehicles managed to tow the car out of the canal.

According to the reporters, the car front was severely damaged, and its parts had fallen off.

The airbag in the vehicle had also been activated.

No injuries on SBS Transit bus

SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu told Mothership that the bus involved in the collision was one of its service 52 buses.

According to Wu, the bus was travelling straight along Commonwealth Ave West with the green light in its favour when the incident occurred.

"Based on our CCTV footage, a vehicle exiting the slip road did not stop before joining the main road and collided with our bus," read the statement.

Wu added that passengers onboard the bus were transferred to another bus to continue their journey, and no one had to be conveyed to the hospital for treatment.
