A crocodile was spotted again at Yishun Dam.

In a video posted to SGFollowsAll's Telegram page, the reptile could be seen gliding through the waters, close to the edge of the dam.

A number of people were seen walking along and sitting at a nearby breakwater, apparently oblivious to the reptile's presence.

The crocodile's distinctive V-shaped snout and ridged tail were also clearly visible.

This was the second sighting of a crocodile at Yishun Dam in recent months.

In July 2024, a croc was also seen swimming in the dam — albeit some distance away from the shore.

In response to Mothership's queries, the National Parks Board (NParks) said it was alerted to the sighting on Jan. 6.

"We are monitoring the sighting and have placed advisory signs around the area to warn public to stay away from the water’s edge.

We have also shared advisories with kayaking operators and stakeholders to stay clear of the waters."

Local crocs

Only one species of crocodile inhabits Singapore's waters — the estuarine crocodile, also known as the saltwater crocodile.

Native to Singapore, the reptile is listed locally as "critically endangered", according to the Singapore Red Data Book.

The estuarine crocodile is one of the largest crocodile species in the world and can grow to more than 5m in length.

While their range has been mostly limited to Sungei Buloh, they have been spotted in other parts of Singapore, such as East Coast Park, off Pasir Ris beach, and West Coast Park.

Should members of public encounter a crocodile, they should stay calm and back away.

They should not approach, provoke, or feed the animal.

They should also heed warning signs and advisory notices that have been posted at areas where crocodiles have been sighted.

Crocodile encounters can be reported to NParks at 1800-476-1600.
