New café opens in Sin Ming at ground floor of 52-year-old HDB block
Wanna go grab matcha and yap?
Looking for another cafe at Upper Thomson?
Cheeky Cuppas, a new quaint little place, has joined the scene a stone's throw away from Upper Thomson MRT station.
The café with a takeaway concept opened in late December 2024.
It is located at the ground floor of Block 24 Sin Ming Road, yup, a 52-year-old Housing and Development Board (HDB) block.
Their drinks
This new cafe offers a variety of handmade drinks.
Their most popular drink is the spanners, which are beverages topped with velvety housemade sweet cream.
Here are the spanners we tasted:
Chaspanner (Hot S$9, cold S$9.90)
The Chaspanner is a strong matcha latte made with matcha powder imported from Japan and topped with sweet cream.
The light cream is meant to be sipped together rather than stirred, complementing the slightly bitter notes of the matcha well.
While on the pricier side, it's because of the heavier use of matcha powder compared to other cafes — 6g rather than 3g to 4g.
There's also a lactose-free protein milk you can switch to at no additional charge, which goes better with the matcha.
Einspanner (Hot S$6.50, cold S$7.50)
The Einspanner is a long black made with their sweet cream that goes down smoothly with the cream without a strong acidic aftertaste.
Sandwiches
There are both savoury and sweet types of sandwiches to pair your beverage with.
There are three sandwiches on the menu.
The Otah pei ya som (S$7.90) features a banana leaf otah, mesclun greens and cheese.
Their Hammie Cheese (S$7.90) is the classic and comforting ham and cheese sandwich.
And the Naughty Kaya (S$4.90) is the typical traditional kaya toast.
Except that it uses French butter and ricotta cheese.
