Soh Rui Yong wins 5th consecutive Standard Chartered S'pore Marathon
Soh clocked a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes and 5 seconds.
Singapore's top long-distance runner, Soh Rui Yong, has won his fifth consecutive Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2024 national title.
He clinched the race with a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes and 5 seconds, about five-and-a-half minutes behind his 2023 timing.
He walked away with the S$10,000 grand prize.
The reigning champion from 2017 to 2019, as well as 2023 and 2024, shared his achievement on Facebook, stating that it was "an honour to race a marathon on home soil again".
Soh also paid tribute to Singapore's Ironman record holder Benjamin Khoo, adding that he had a "fun race" against Khoo.
It was a close race between the pair, with Khoo coming in second less than 20 seconds later.
Singapore race tough
Soh added that "having raced marathons around the world", Singapore proved to be the toughest with its "heat, humidity and hills" as key challenges.
"Well done to everyone who gave it their all today. We conquered together as a community," wrote Soh.
"Win or lose, tomorrow a new season begins."
Over 55,000 runners competed in the events
This year's Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon attracted over 55,000 participants from over 84 countries, up from 44,000 in 2023.
The race also saw a record number of 13,000 international participants, breaking 2023's record of 8,000 international runners.
For the female marathon category, 2023's national champion Rachel See defended her title once again, with a time of 3 hours and 45 seconds.
For the half marathon, the national champions were Shaun Goh, with a time of 1:12:31 seconds, and Vanessa Lee, with a time of 1:24:17.
Both Goh and Lee were 2023's champions as well.
