34 motorists in Singapore, aged between 24 and 63, will be charged in court on Dec. 19 for drink driving offences.

According to a news release on Dec. 18, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that the individuals were arrested between August and December 2024 after failing breathalyser tests administered during enforcement checks.

Out of the 34 motorists, two were repeat offenders who were previously convicted for drink driving.

The men, aged 36 and 44, were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol on Sep. 30 and Nov. 4 after being stopped for checks.

Drove while intoxicated, left cars and blocked other vehicles

Two other motorists face an additional charge for leaving their vehicles in a way which had caused inconvenience to other road users.

The two men, aged 33 and 52, had allegedly stopped their cars along Brickland Road and Airport Road respectively, blocking other vehicles and potentially causing danger to others.

Police investigations revealed that both had driven their cars after allegedly consuming alcohol before falling asleep behind the wheel.

Penalties

If found guilty of drink driving, the motorists arrested may face a fine ranging from S$2,000 to S$10,000, or jailed up to 12 months, or both.

Repeat offenders may face a fine ranging from S$5,000 to S$20,000, and jailed up to two years.

They may also be disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles.

Those found guilty of leaving a vehicle in a manner causing undue inconvenience to others may be fined up to S$2,000, or jailed up to three months, or both.

Repeat offenders may be fined up to S$5,000, or jailed up to six months, or both.

Members of the public are advised not to drive if they intend to consume alcohol.

Instead, they should take public transport, taxis or private hire vehicles, engage a valet, or get a non-drinker to send them home.
