Ex-actor Huang Yiliang fined S$3,000 & given 5-year driving ban for hitting cyclist with his van
The cyclist suffered a fracture in his right elbow.
Former actor Huang Yiliang, also known as Ng Aik Leong, was given a S$3,000 fine and a five-year driving ban on Nov. 15 for a traffic accident.
This was after the 63-year-old Singaporean drove his van into a cyclist as he exited a slip road.
Huang pleaded guilty to one count of causing grievous hurt by driving without reasonable consideration for other road users, CNA reported.
What happened
On Sep. 20, 2023, at about 8:20pm, Huang was driving his van on the right lane of a two-lane Cavenagh Road slip road leading to Bukit Timah Road.
The cyclist, a 27-year-old Singaporean, was cycling towards Serangoon Road on the left-most lane of a four-lane road along Bukit Timah Road.
Huang was not seen stopping before the "give way" line at the slip road.
The front left of his vehicle hit the cyclist's left side.
Huang checked on the cyclist following the collision.
The cyclist had a fracture in his right elbow, as well as sustaining bruising and abrasion.
He was conveyed conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He was given 57 days' hospitalisation leave in total.
The bicycle was scratched on both sides, while Huang's van was not damaged.
The defence lawyer said Huang could not see clearly as he had been "blinded" by lights.
Huang was previously sentenced to 10 months' jail in February 2021 for assaulting a Bangladeshi worker in 2018.
He was also ordered to pay S$3,300 to the worker as compensation.
He did not hire a lawyer to defend him previously, only doing so for his appeals against conviction and sentence, which were dismissed.
