Trump supporter Tucker Carlson calls Kamala Harris 'Samoan-M'sian' in bizarre New York City rally speech
What?
Kamala Harris, U.S. vice president and candidate in this year's presidential election, has had a number of insults flung her way over the course of the campaign.
Her opponent, former president Donald Trump, has come up with labels for her like "low IQ" and "Marxist", with Harris in turn calling him a "fascist" (which Trump himself has said about Harris).
While such insults are par for the course for any election in the U.S. these days, one in particular left observers scratching their heads.
New York City rally
During Trump's rally in Madison Square Garden, New York City on Oct. 28 (Singapore time), several conservative and right-wing personalities were invited to speak, including former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and billionaire Elon Musk.
Another speaker was former Fox News TV host Tucker Carlson, who was reportedly fired from his gig in April 2023 amidst a lawsuit alleging sexism and a hostile work environment.
Since then Carlson has pivoted to the online space, even interviewing Russia's President Vladimir Putin in April 2024 for X (formerly Twitter).
During his speech, Carlson laid into Harris, using an epithet that doesn't appear to have been used so far on the campaign trail.
Tucker: it's going to be pretty tough for them.. say.. Kamala Harris, she got 85 million votes because she's so impressive. As the first is a Samoan Malaysian low I.Q. former California prosecutor ever to be elected president.. pic.twitter.com/s0Vtbzhbgp

In the clip, Carlson said:
"It's going to be pretty tough for them, 10 days for now, to look America in the eyes, with a straight face... and say you know what Kamala Harris, she got 85 million votes because she's so impressive.
As the first Samoan Malaysian low I.Q. former California prosecutor ever to be elected president. It was just a groundswell of popular support, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just a freak or a criminal."
What?
If you're not terminally online, Carlson's intended message may have sailed over your head.
But it has its links to an appearance Trump made months ago at the National Association of Black Journalists, where he attacked Harris's claim of being black.
For the record, Harris is the daughter of a black Jamaican father and an Indian (South Asian) mother.
So Carlson's apparent flailing with various nationalities may have been a jab at Harris's "dubious" racial identity.
However, Carlson's other intention may have been a tad more subtle.
As Yahoo News noted, Carlson appeared to be priming his audience to question and object to the results of the election if Harris wins by a large margin.
With Trump supporters storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and Trump himself the target of assassination attempts earlier this year, there could be more violent scenes in this year's election.
