Local actor Ryan Lian said he was discharged from hospital and is taking medication for an undisclosed condition, following his alleged involvement in a lock-breaking incident in Telok Blangah in September 2024.

The Singaporean actor is best known for his roles in Jack Neo-directed movies, such as "Long Long Time Ago" and its sequel, both released in 2016, where he played the character Ah Long, as well as "Ah Boys To Men 4" (2017).

On Sep. 15, Lian, 39, was seen loitering outside a Housing and Development Board (HDB) unit at Block 93B Telok Blangah Street 31 before appearing to open a gate secured by a digital lock.

He was subsequently apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.

Starred in promotional video 3 weeks later

About three weeks later, Lian shared a promotional video for a cafe, starring himself, to his social media pages.

This was posted on his Facebook on Oct. 7 and reposted to his Instagram the next day.

In the video, Lian plays a fictional character who ends up patronising the cafe.

At the start of the video, his character says, “I was young and ignorant, and decided to break open someone's lock as I had nothing better to do”, before correcting himself.

Shared about mental health struggles previously

Lian has shared about his struggles with mental health in the past.

In 2022, he told Shin Min about his three-year bout of depression, which prevented him from taking up acting roles.

He also disclosed to Lianhe Zaobao that mental health struggles were his reason for him pulling out of 2022 local television series, "When Duty Calls 2".
