Kongma La Pass
Kongma La Pass is the easternmost pass of Nepal's Three Passes Trek.
It is known to be a challenging trek.
Raj Tamang, the founder of a trekking company in Nepal called Responsible Adventures, told ST that he learnt on Sep. 26 about what happened to Tan.
Tamang also noted that Harry is a "very fit person", and "takes very good care of himself".
Member of Parliament Wan Rizal posted to Facebook on Sep. 27 about Tan:
"Praying for the safety of our beloved NIE/PESS lecturer, Harry Tan, during his trekking at Nepal's Everest Base Camp. May he be safe and sound, and may the search and rescue efforts be swift and successful. Let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers during this challenging time."
Tan retired from National Institute of Education (NIE-NTU) in 2010, and returned as a part-time lecturer from 2013 to 2020.
A spokesperson from NTU said, "The university is deeply concerned to learn that Mr Harry Tan, a former staff member at NIE-NTU, has been reported missing."
"The university is in touch with the family and is rendering all possible assistance in their time of need. Our thoughts are with them, and we remain hopeful for a positive outcome," the spokesperson added.
