A fire involving a car's engine compartment broke out at the Block 635A carpark on Pasir Ris Drive 1 on Jun. 21, 2025.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership they were alerted to the fire at about 8:55pm.

There were no reported injuries.

A member of the public stepped forward

A Mothership reader noticed the incident when they heard the fire alarm at around 9:10pm. They saw thick black smoke rising from the car park.

According to them, a member of the public went into the carpark before SCDF arrived and helped to contain the fire "without hesitation" and without proper personal protective equipment.

Using a nearby fire hose reel, he prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent vehicles that had not yet been affected.

SCDF later extinguished the fire with a water jet.

The Mothership reader praised the civilian for his bravery, selflessness, and prompt action.

"His quick thinking and courage helped contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to adjacent vehicles that were not yet affected."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
