Samuel Lee, one of the candidates for the People's Power Party (PPP) team contesting Ang Mo Kio GRC was previously jailed for a road rage incident.
During a walkabout at Ang Mo Kio, residents asked the party about Lee.
The members defended Lee, saying people deserved a second chance and said that Lee had been careless.
Party secretary-general Goh Meng Seng also reiterated a point from his Facebook post defending Lee, saying Lee had not been involved in more serious crimes like lying in parliament or fraud.
During a doorstop on Apr. 26, Lee himself addressed the media.
Lee bowed and apologised for his actions, and to the rider in the incident.
He also said he "sincerely wish[es]" the delivery rider well in his life "moving forward".
He also said he will ignore online scrutiny and mockery.
When asked by Chinese media what he would do with the "eggs" thrown at him online, he said he will wipe it off with a tissue.
In response to earlier media queries, Goh Meng Seng said he was aware of Lee's past and had not been kept in the dark about it.
He added that Lee had not been involved in an affair, lying in parliament, fraud, or a breach of trust case.
Goh pointed out that these matters involved the issue of credibility.
He reiterated, "(Lee) is not killing people or starting fires, neither has he cheated people, nor lied, nor lied in parliament."
