Man, 56, finds mould in chilli sauce at Yishun cai png stall after having stomachache
He found white spots on the chilli sauce the next day he returned to the stall.
A man had a stomachache for four days and suspected it was due to mouldy chilli sauce at a cai png stall in Yishun.
56-year-old Hong (transliteration) told Chinese media Shin Min Daily News that he ate cai png from the coffee shop at Block 807 Yishun Ring Road on Dec. 27, 2024, before feeling discomfort.
Apparently, he didn't think much about it and went back to the same stall the next day. That's when he noticed "white spots" on their chilli sauce.
Hong said he alerted the stall assistant about it and took a photo.
"I had an upset stomach for four days," said Hong. "I believe it was because I ate the chilli sauce the day before."
Stall investigating the matter
When a Shin Min reporter visited the stall on Dec. 30, a stall assistant said he was aware of the incident and told the reporter the chilli was indeed mouldy.
The stall assistant said he immediately removed the chilli sauce and cleaned the container.
Another stall assistant said the chilli sauce was sourced from a supplier in sealed packs and had not had mould issues before.
"I suspect some customers may have used a wet spoon to scoop the chilli sauce, which could have caused it to turn bad," that stall assistant said.
The Shin Min reporter observed that the stall stopped providing chilli sauce and other condiments.
One of the stall assistants explained that they had asked the supplier to investigate the matter before resuming the supply of chilli sauce.
