A man in Singapore is appealing for witnesses after his parked car was involved in a hit-and-run incident.

Speaking to Mothership, the man, Noel, shared that he parked his car at the Bayfront Plaza car park at Gardens by the Bay on Jan. 10 at 8:30am, before walking to his workplace.

At around 5:15pm, he returned to the parking lot to find his car slanted, his front license plate on the floor, and his front bumper badly damaged.

The car park was relatively empty, with only a few cars around.

Noel shared a video on TikTok of the incident, hoping to get help finding the person responsible for damaging his car.

@koalaxpiglet Can someone explain how someone can even hit my car in this relatively open carpark??!! Finding any witness!!! This happens on 10 Jan 2025. Have handed my dashcam camera SD card but not sure if it captured. No CCTV near the area. Only can rely on the barrier records. Sad way to end a Friday Evening yesterday settling all the police, towing under the heavy rain for 2-3 hrs. P.s my front was hit quite bad so didn’t think turning on the engine or battery was a good idea. @ComplaintSingapore @Roads SG Please help to catch the culprit!! #trafficaccident #hitandrun #sgcatpark #singapore #caraccident #sgtraffic ♬ original sound - koalaxpiglet

Noel then called the police and his insurance agent, who referred him to the Mobile Accident Response Service for towing help.

No CCTVs

Noel next tried to see if closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured the accident.

However, he was informed by the area’s management that the area had no CCTVs. Noel then requested for the car park’s barrier camera records as he suspected that the vehicle that collided with him would also be damaged.

While Noel's car had a dashcam, he shared that nobody on the scene had a device that could read the microSD card.

Noel also found one witness, who shared that they only saw a small lorry parked beside his car around 1:30pm but did not think much about it.

The police eventually arrived at around 6:30pm, and he surrendered his microSD card to them.

Noel went to the police station to file a report and returned to his car to wait for the towing company, which arrived around 8pm.

Under the pouring rain, he settled everything and was only able to leave the parking lot at 8:45pm.

He shared that he wasn’t able to seek shelter in his car as he wanted to avoid turning on the engine given the damage to the vehicle.

Damages

Noel told Mothership that he was advised by the workshop that repairs could amount to more than S$5,000.

In addition, if the culprit is not found, Noel would have to pay for the damages through his own insurance.

However, he said his insurance will not cover the cost of renting a replacement vehicle while his car is being repaired.

And if the culprit is found, but is not insured, he might have to consider pursuing a lawsuit to claim compensation.

He hopes that witnesses will get in touch.
