S'porean singer-songwriter WhyLucas makes top 9 in Thai idol survival show

Thai idol survival show "Chuang Asia" is returning for its second instalment.

Set to air in 2025, the show’s second season will feature a lineup of male contestants from around the globe, including Singaporean singer-songwriter Lucas Wang.

Perhaps better known by his TikTok handle WhyLucas, Wang is the show's only Singaporean participant.

He emerged among the top nine contestants after the trainees' performance for Thailand's 2025 countdown event.

Others shortlisted include male youths of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Libyan heritage.

Wang is best known for his guitar covers of popular songs on Tiktok, where he frequently features his grandmother. He has released six singles since 2022.

"Chuang Asia" is the fifth instalment of the "Produce Camp" franchise, originally based in China.

The survival show's first season aired in 2024, and spotlighted 70 female trainees from all over the world.

Over multiple rounds of elimination, nine contestants were shortlisted for the transition into stardom.

This culminated in the formation of the girl group Gen1es, who will be returning as guest judges for the second season.

Season 2's judge lineup features five artistes, including Seventeen's The8.

Previously, Got7's Jackson Wang and NCT's Ten were among the five judges for the show's inaugural season.

The second season of "Chuang Asia" will be available for streaming on WeTV from Feb. 2, 2025.
