You might have heard of MBTI quizzes or aura readings, but do you know what type of energy you are?

No, we’re not talking about aura energy, but a more tangible kind — the kind that powers our homes and ensures we can have that cooling aircon breeze during hot, humid days.

Time to see which type of energy you are, based on your personality, with this quiz:

If you’re the Golden Retriever, then you’d be Solar Energy

You’re the Golden Retriever—loyal, positive, and free-spirited. Just as solar energy doesn’t deplete the Earth’s resources, you’re the kind of person who radiates positivity without ever running out of energy.

More than that, just like how a golden retriever is considered a man’s best friend, solar energy is one of Singapore’s best friends. As one of the most solar-dense cities in the world, Singapore is in an ideal location to tap on this clean energy source to generate electricity even though it cannot fully meet our energy needs.

You’re not afraid to be a source of light for others, but just like any other person, you have your fair share of ups and downs. Change or criticism might be something you’re more sensitive to compared to others. Similarly, how much sunlight we can convert into electricity depends on factors like weather conditions.

That’s when friends come in! In the case of solar energy, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) uses a Solar Forecasting Model to plan ahead and take pre-emptive actions to manage solar intermittency. For golden retrievers, you know something as small as a little sunlight or a self-care day is enough to get you back on track.

Just like how the sun will always come out again after the rain, a golden retriever can always bounce back to its sunny self. A constant source of brightness that aims to lift those around you, no wonder why you’re the bestie everyone wants!

If you’re the Innovator, then you’d be Low-Carbon Alternatives

You’re the Innovator—a daring adventurer who thrives on discovering uncharted territories and finding new ways of doing things. Ambitious and curious at heart, you’re not afraid to dream big.

Just like how innovators lead change toward the future, EMA is similarly exploring low-carbon alternatives for Singapore to find new ways to power the nation more sustainably, such as hydrogen and geothermal energy. Such energy sources might not be fully viable now, but you can already see the future where clean energy can transform the way we power our world.

Take geothermal energy, for example. It could be one of the pathways to support Singapore’s ambitious plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, helping to diversify the energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. You may not know everything about it yet, but that doesn’t stop you from exploring its potential.

Just like you, who dreams big and makes things happen, EMA is also exploring the use of hydrogen or hydrogen derivatives like ammonia for power generation. If successful, Singapore could be one of the first countries in the world to deploy a direct ammonia combustion power plant and unlock the potential of ammonia as a low-carbon fuel.

Just as how an innovator transforms the impossible into the possible, both low-carbon alternatives and innovators are working towards a better future for us all. So, whether you’re pioneering new ideas or blazing a trail for others to follow, you’re all about embracing the future with excitement and creativity!

If you’re the Social Butterfly, then you’d be the Regional Power Grids.

You’re the Social Butterfly— extroverted, always socialising, and are well-connected. You’re the person who always brings people from different walks of life together. To you, “the more the merrier” is what you live by.

A social butterfly is all about making the connections, just like how Singapore is connecting to regional power grids to access low-carbon electricity from neighbouring countries. You are all about collaboration and resource-sharing for mutual benefit.

Take the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), for example. The project marked the first multilateral cross-border electricity trade between four ASEAN countries. For a social butterfly like you, that sounds like the connections you want to make and more.

Adaptable and resourceful, both regional power grids and social butterflies make sure the flow of energy—whether literal or social—moves smoothly, efficiently, and positively, connecting people and places.

You’re the one people turn to when they need to bridge gaps and make things happen. Truly the social butterfly!

If you’re the Traditionalist, then you’d be Natural Gas.

You’re the Traditionalist—grounded, reliable, and all about stability. You prefer sticking to what works and find comfort in proven methods.

Just like a traditionalist who values consistency, natural gas plays a key role in powering Singapore today. 95% of our electricity is generated using natural gas, which provides a stable, and dependable source of energy.

It may not be the flashiest choice, but it gets the job done, and that’s what matters most to you.

Much like a traditionalist, natural gas is about sticking to what’s familiar and minimising risks, while still providing the reliability needed to keep things running smoothly.

However, as much as you prefer stability, you also know that change is inevitable. Similarly, EMA is exploring other ways to ensure Singapore’s energy system is ready for the future.

Take the emission standards for power generation units, for example. New or repowered power generation units will need to be hydrogen-compatible, besides having to meet certain emission intensity limits. This will help to ensure all new power generation capacity in time to come will be cleaner.

As much as you prefer reliability and stability, you are not an unreasonable person. You’re just extra careful in knowing all the pros and cons of something before doing anything.

Like a traditionalist who adapts to change while staying grounded in dependable values, Singapore’s energy strategy is rooted in the reliability of natural gas as it transitions to cleaner, more sustainable sources in the years to come. Reliable, and steady—just like you!

Importance of a greener future

Energy Market Authority (EMA), the government agency responsible for ensuring a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy supply in Singapore, shared that the power sector accounts for approximately 40 per cent of Singapore’s total emissions. Decarbonising the energy sector is therefore critical to support Singapore’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Each energy type – solar, low-carbon alternatives, regional power grids, and natural gas – plays a vital role in this transition. Together, they form a comprehensive strategy that fosters innovation and collaboration, while ensuring reliability as Singapore progresses toward a clean energy future.
