Football: Vietnam beats 10-man Thailand 5-2 aggregate to win Asean Championship
Vietnam previously lost to Thailand in the 2022 final.
Ten-man defending champions Thailand were downed 2-3 by Vietnam in the second leg of the final in Bangkok on Sunday, Jan. 5.
The 5-3 aggregate victory secured the Asean Championship for Vietnam for the third time in their history.
A 82nd minute own goal by Thailand and a stoppage time effort from Nguyen Hai Long gave Vietnam the champion status.
They last won it in 2018.
Vietnam previously lost to Thailand in the 2022 final.
Vietnam led 2-1 following Thursday's first leg in Viet Tri.

Vietnam scored in the eighth minute through Pham Tuan Hai.
Ben Davis equalised 20 minutes later via a first-time strike.
Thailand then went ahead and levelled the overall score with a 25-yard strike in the 64th minute.
Thailand went down to 10 men in the 74th minute, as Weerathep Pomphun was sent off for a second bookable offence on Vu Van Thanh on the halfway line.
Thailand conceded an own goal in the 82nd minute after a shot towards the bottom corner was deflected under the goalkeeper and into the net.
The Vietnamese, who first won the title in 2008, scored in the 20th minute of time added on after the Thai goalkeeper was at the opposite end of the pitch in a last-ditech effort to keep the game alive.
