S'porean man, 35, stalked ex-employee at her block & new workplace for nearly 2 years, gets jail
He also followed her in his car while she took bus and MRT to work.
After confessing to his former employee and getting rejected, a married Singaporean man continued to stalk her at her home and new workplace on a near daily-basis for about 21 months.
Sven Teo Jin Kiat also sent the woman 31 emails from seven different email addresses.
He also arranged deliveries of a Christian Dior bag, and food with notes that professed his love.
The victim made seven police reports against him.
Stalked victim after she rejected him
Court documents seen by Mothership indicated that the victim, a 29-year-old woman, was previously employed at Teo's salon.
During that time, Teo confessed his interest in her but she rejected him. One of her reasons was that he was married.
The victim later left his salon around January 2023 to work at another salon which would deploy her to different branches around Singapore.
She did not tell Teo where her new workplace was.
However, Teo wanted to speak to the victim about their relationship and convince her to come back to his salon to work, prosecutors said.
From January 2023 to September 2024, investigations found that on a near-daily basis, Teo would loiter at her home and workplaces, including at one-north and Kent Ridge.
Teo would lurk at her void deck for about an hour at a time to wait for her.
Sometimes, he would drive over and park at a carpark near her block.
At times, the woman would see Teo's car following behind her bus or MRT train on her route to work and home.
Sent her gifts, 31 emails to profess his love
Teo also gave her gifts on at least four occasions, including a Christian Dior bag and food accompanied with notes that professed his feelings for her.
He also created seven different email addresses and sent her 31 emails professing his love and asking her to meet him.
When she did not respond to his advances, Teo said she was "cruel and heartless".
After the victim found out Teo was stalking her, she became more vigilant. She recorded at least five videos of him as evidence, and Teo would run away when he realised she had spotted him.
The victim was so affected that she engaged her colleagues and neighbours to keep a lookout for Teo and inform her if he showed up, the prosecutor said.
Continued to stalk her while out on bail
From June 2023 to December 2024, the victim made seven police reports against Teo for stalking her.
She also managed to confront him on two to three occasions.
In January 2024, the victim told Teo that she did not want to talk to him and asked him why he kept bothering her.
Around that time, the police were also investigating Teo for stalking the victim on previous occasions, and advised him to refrain from criminal conduct.
But Teo continued to stalk her, and also questioned the victim for having made a report against him.
Teo was charged in court on Dec. 5, 2024.
After being released on bail, he stalked the victim four more times at places he expected to see her, including at her home, an MRT station, and a lunch spot in Toa Payoh.
Pleaded guilty
On Jan. 13, Teo pleaded guilty to stalking the victim from November 2023 to September 2024, and from November to December 2024, CNA reported.
Asking for a sentence of three to four months' jail for Teo, the prosecution highlighted the victim's distress over the period of almost two years when she was "relentlessly stalked" by Teo.
The prosecutor described Teo as "an unwanted surveillance camera" to the victim, saying that the victim was constantly worried about what Teo might do to her, and described feeling "horrified" by his actions.
"She frequently experienced feelings of worry and stress...She felt paranoid whenever she left her house because she knew there was a high chance that she would see him."
Teo was jailed for three months on Jan. 13, according to CNA.
