It has been a wet and chilly day in Singapore on Jan. 10.

Rain started falling on various parts of the island since the early hours of Friday morning, bringing with it wet and cool weather.

By about 11:30pm on Friday night, temperatures in Newton — the southern central part of Singapore — fell to 22.1°C.

The west side of Singapore lodged temperatures that were slightly lower than the east.

However, it appears that higher precipitation levels did not coincide with cooler weather.

The most amount of rainfall received was in Changi in the east, which recorded 156.4mm of precipitation since midnight.

Tuas, in the far west, only received 83.4mm of rainfall over the same period.

Newton received 102.6mm.

Cause of chilly weather

On Jan. 9, national water agency PUB issued an alert that a monsoon surge is expected to bring rainy and windy conditions to Singapore from Friday to Monday, Jan. 10 to 13.
