The Registry of Marriages (ROM) and Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM) will be temporarily relocating to the Esplanade Mall as the existing site at Canning Rise will be undergoing redevelopment from 2025 to 2028.

Last day of operations at Canning Rise on Apr. 11, 2025

According to a joint press release by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), both ROM and ROMM will cease operations at Canning Rise at the end of Friday, Apr. 11, 2025.

They will then resume services at level three of the Esplanade Mall on Monday, Apr. 14, 2025, taking over part of the space formerly occupied by library@esplanade.

To facilitate the move, in-person appointments and solemnisations at Canning Rise will not be available during the weekend of Apr. 12 to 13, 2025.

Solemnisations held at external venues, including video-linked solemnisations, will not be affected.

All existing ROM and ROMM appointments and solemnisations scheduled from Apr. 14 onwards will be automatically transferred to the Esplanade Mall interim site.

Couples who have already made such bookings will be notified on the change.

ROM and ROMM moved to Canning Rise in August 1983

According to MSF and MCCY, ROM and ROMM moved to Canning Rise in August 1983.

The redeveloped Canning Rise building is envisioned to be a choice venue for marrying couples to celebrate their unions, the ministries added.

Key features include the re-creation of the pitched roof, larger and more modern solemnisation venues, such as a rooftop solemnisation space, green spaces within the building, as well as indoor and outdoor photo spots.

The redeveloped building will also have a key focus on sustainability and will sport features such as energy-efficient building management systems and sustainable materials factored into the redeveloped building.

More details of the new ROM and ROMM building will be shared at a later date.
